Please do not sit! - Exhibition catalog
Product Details
Exhibition catalogue in collaboration with herbts.freitag for our joint exhibition: "Please do not sit down!"
“Please do not sit!” is a temporary space for new perspectives, unusual, accessible, humorous, provocative and contradictory.
Sitting is more than a physical gesture; it signifies dwelling, coming together, negotiating. It is communication between body, object, and space.
The exhibition at the Japanese Palace in Dresden explores sitting as a formal, social, and political posture. Where does sitting begin? What do we sit on, and when? What do our seats tell us?
Approximately 30 selected seating objects, ranging from functional designs to sculptural gestures, are arranged in a floor grid to form a walk-in archive of sitting.
The aim is a contemporary topography of sitting: a collective reflection on posture, design and deviation, created by artists, designers and craftspeople.
A group exhibition curated by yardshedoffice & herbst.freitag
An exhibition at the Japanese Palace Dresden from August 13th to September 7th, 2025

sustainability
Sustainability plays a role in every one of our products. Whether textiles, ceramics, or furniture – we take care to work in a resource-conserving and conscious manner. Where possible, we source our textiles sustainably and have them embroidered or printed locally. Ceramic products are handcrafted in Dresden and Weimar, and our furniture is made from reclaimed wood or carefully selected materials.
About Us
We are Ole and Kolja – two friends from Dresden, and we've been running Yard Shed Office since 2019. It all started in a small garden shed that serves as both our creative space and workshop. Since then, we've been working on creating things that we ourselves like and enjoy using.
Our work revolves around three areas: textiles, ceramics, and furniture (yarn, stoneware, and other objects). These are the things that inspire us and that we work with every day. We place great value on sustainable materials and conscious, and whenever possible, local production.
